Community Workshops:

Litter Out of Our Environment

This community activity cleans up a location proposed by the community (a high litter or illegal dumping location), analyzes the type of ‘waste’ and its effects on the environment, particularly for wildlife and water quality.  This activity will strengthen the overall capacity of land, and water leaders and stewards in the community and increase knowledge about the effects of litter. We can potentially involve those responsible for the land or the waste itself, and take various actions to prevent future litter/illegal dumping in that area.

Waste Audit

This community activity analyzes the randomized contents of waste for ‘disposal’ accompanied by a certified landfill manager, determining percentage volumes of the various materials in the communities’ waste stream.  This activity is highly suggested for people in leadership positions, who can make decisions about the community's waste management programs.  We expect this activity to encourage adaptation away from the false idea that anything can be ‘disposed’ of, and an increased interest in community methods of waste reduction, including composting, re-use, recycling, and possibilities for plastics remanufacture.
